Kon Tiki Hotel tribute mug #43 of 50

$350.00

Limited edition of 50 pieces total. My personal tribute to the long lost Kon Tiki Hotel, Phoenix AZ. The front of the mug depicts one of the tikis that adorned the large freestanding sign at the entrance. The back of the mug has the name of the hotel in the same style that was on the signage. This mug is 8.5 in tall and approximately 4 in wide. 100% handmade by yours truly in stoneware.

History: the hotel was built in 1961 and it was at the intersection of 24th Street and Van Buren in Phoenix. The hotel was advertised as "a little bit of Waikiki in the heart of Phoenix". Unfortunately when a new freeway was built it took a toll on the area. The hotel closed in 1993 and was completely demolished in 1997.
